For ease of use, supreme safety, and light weight check out the Loggy Bayou. I have one, not cheap at $300 but worth every cent. Hunt safe. chris Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I bought an API Bowhunter stand today.  Thanks for all the advice. And cartan The Hunk is derived from my name.  I’m 6′3", 178 lbs, not a hunk more like a scarecrow. >I am looking into buying a climbing stand and any advice would be >appreciated.  I have 3 hang on stands and most of my buddies have climbers >and like them.  I’m leaning toward an API bowhunter or an Ol’ man original. >Thanks, >Wes Hunkler >The Hunk >Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: >        http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Look at Buckshot’s "Hotshot" climber for bowhunters. I just bought one. Hunk, huh? I thought I was the Hunk.  :>) — Cordially, R. Mine is called a Cobra Viper, I think.  Cobra makes several different types of tree stands.  I really like it because there are no parts to lose.  There is a rubber-coated cable that goes around the tree on the climber and stand portion.  It will fit many sizes of trees.  There are no other parts to fall into the forest somewhere. The climber and stand are welded; no squeaks going in or out of the forest. > I am looking into buying a climbing stand and any advice would be > appreciated.  I have 3 hang on stands and most of my buddies have climbers > and like them.  I’m leaning toward an API bowhunter or an Ol’ man original. > Thanks, > Wes Hunkler > The Hunk > Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: >         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Cartan, can you think of any improvements for your current stand?  I was looking at the Warren and Sweat Master hunter ($90 locally), but after hearing your comments maybe I should wait. The thing I don’t like about many stands is, like you said, the rail.  My bow is 40" axle to axle and there is no way to conformably shoot with the bow horizontal to the ground–let alone accurate.  Seriously though, I want a simple stand with only a seat on the upper part.  The bottom portion can have a foot rest, bow holder, etc.  but the top portion must be unconfining. Well I have the API its a good stand I have 2 complaints the factory cary straps are no good you have to replace them. And the plastic around the chain that goes around the tree tears off after alot of use.But the good stuff is it can be attached to the tree ready to climb in 45 seconds! its lite, very easy to climb with and very comfortable you can sit in this stand along period of time. And good price for what you get. Wes, Does "The Hunk" refer to your physical size or just a derivative of your last name?  You want to be sure to get a stand rated to carry your weight. I am acrophobic and was unhappy with the stability of my first treestand (Warren & Sweat Cottonwood) as well as the time it took to set it up. So I did a lot of looking and reading and testing before I bought my second stand. The main conclusion I found is that one should go to a shop where treestands can be tested out, and try it out for oneself to be sure you like it. The API bowhunter is a great choice, IMO.  The chain provides quick and easy set up in the tree, the stand packs easily and is relatively light.  However, it is not for me, since I prefer the security of a rail that wraps all the way around, rather than the open front of the bowhunter. The salesman pointed out to me when I was looking at the API Grand Slam Supreme, similar in design to the bowhunter, more padding, rail all around, that the treestand may shift slightly if you put all your weight on one side.  The chain doesn’t bite into the tree like blades do, so only the blades on the inside of the API bite the tree. I wound up with the BigShot by Buckshot, a heavier stand with a U shaped blade assembly that is a bit quicker to set up that the older flat blade stands, but more time consuming than the chain and cable stands. However, stability is a prime concern for me, due to my fear of height, and with the blades on both sides, secured with a cinch cord, the stand is rigid in the tree.  BuckShot makes the HotShot, a bowhunter’s stand without the rail in the front.  I think these stands are more expensive than the API. I bought my stand at the Bowhunters Discount Warehouse in Wellsville, PA, near York, and they have many stands to sample.  Wherever you buy your stand, I’d strongly recommend trying it out first. — Cartan "Take time to get away, before time is taken away Share what you know.
