Hello, There is a gunsmith in Arkansas named Roland Beaver. I am considering having him convert my full-lenght Garand to a "Tanker" in .308. John, I don’t know anything about Roland except he advertizes in the Garand Collectors Association and if he had any complaints against him they would not let him advertize in it…. Roland built a T26 tanker garand with scout scope for me – work is first rate and it shots garbage 308s into 1" at 100 and handloaded 168MatchKings into 3/4" from sandbags (average 5 shot groups no wind). Many high power types I know consider him one of the very top garand/m14 smiths on the face of the planet. As someone who likes M1s I just have to say. NOOOOOOO! Please don’t do that. I’d be willing to buy the M1 off of you and you can use that to purchase a carbine. I just saw one at Cabela’s last weekend that they were itching to get rid of. They said they had a lot of ammo that goes with it, as well as some other accessories.
