I am an Ohio resident and will be heading to Wisconsin on the 6th of November. We got our non-resident tags by mail, we simply went to the DNR website and downloaded the forms (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us). Note that in WI, the tag is not effective until THREE (3) days AFTER purchase! So if you want to hunt on the 12th, buy your tag on the 9th. This can be a real trick if you only have two days to hunt! Before you buy. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I’m not trying to discourage you but the Manitowoc area is primarily private farm land. Permission to hunt is a must so if your in for a short time I hope you have friends that have made arrangements. I personally would avoid the state owned land on opening weekend the hunting pressure is enormous. Note that Manitowoc is shotgun only. I live in Sheboygan county which is the county south of Manitowoc. I will hunt public land during the week and certainly during black powder, but not opening weekend. Not knowing where you are in the UP I can’t say that much. I hunt the Oconto area of Wisconsin which is only 20 miles south of Marinette-Menominee. The management unit north of ours (Peshtigo) is a T-zone meaning the DNR feels the population is way to high and they have issued a host of doe permits. >Hello: >I am interested to know how the deer hunting is in Michigan and Wisconsin. >I will be in that area am I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions about >getting a Non-Resident permit. For Michigan you can buy a nonresident hunting license at many retail outlets. This includes most places where hunting supplies are sold and many other stores. You will need a drivers license or another credible source of ID. Michigan doesn’t allow Michigan ID cards any longer because you can get one without showing residency. You will need proof of a hunters safety class or a previous hunting license if you were born after 1/1/1960. I’m not sure if it means any hunting license or a Michigan hunting license, so I would bring hunter safety certificate to be sure. You can get more info on prices and such at http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/ Hope this helps. Kevin Volz Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
