Best Deer Hunting Book?
Question:
I’m curious what you guys think is the best deer hunting book out there to give for a Christmas gift, and what sets it apart from the others? Thanks — Bruce Nelson Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I like Dr. Kroll’s book" Producing and Harvesting Quality Whitetail. It has all the information you would need and more, but is easy to read. Dr. Kroll is also known as Dr. Deer. So he knows his stuff > I’m curious what you guys think is the best deer hunting book out there to > give for a Christmas gift, and what sets it apart from the others? > Thanks > — > Bruce Nelson > Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: > http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I Would strongly recomend anything by John Ozoga. He is one of the foremost experts on whitetail deer. He also writes for DEER and DEERHUNTING Mag. John has a series of books with a nice binder to keep the set together. Good Luck Mike Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I’ve read several, and four of my favorites are: "The Deer of North America" by Leonard Lee Rue (recently seen as a reprint for sale on www.outdoorsmansedge.com. They have dozens of Deer books) I love this book because it isn’t so much about hunting as it is about DEER, and everything about them. >From the used rack (check harvestbooksearch.com or powells.com) the:
"Outdoor Life’s Deer Hunting Book" which is an excellent compendium from authors like Jack O’Connor, Ben East, etc… It’s a collection of articles and it covers everything from saddles to cooking. If it’s whitetails, the first book I ever read on deer, and still have today on my shelf (2 copies actually, just waiting to give a copy to my son, some day) is: "Whitetail" by George Mattis. Classic pencil drawings, and good advise. "The Modern Deer Hunter" by John O. Cartier is a good book of technique that covers everything from bow hunting to developing your stalking skills.
