Eastern Canada Caribou Hunt for 72 Year Old Hunter
Question:
I want to book a caribou hunt to Canada for myself and my 72 year old father. He is in excellent shape for his age and we still hunt deer each fall in W. Maryland. He wants to hunt caribou, but is concerned about getting too far out into remote and rugged terrain. Where in E. Canada would be the best place to book a hunt that will be easy from a physical exertion point of view? Any recommendations on good, honest, guides? I’ve heard horror stories about some of these guides who don’t do much work, and then take all the meat. You should find lists of outfitters camps and links to some of them on the site "Outdoor Recreation in the province of Quebec (Canada)" ( http://www.ojori.com/outdoor/ ). Look at the hunting and fishing pages for the region: Nunavik, James Bay, Duplessis, Manicouagan and Lac-Saint-Jean where caribou hunting is possible. The Lac-Saint-Jean region is probably the less remote of them all but offer less possibilities. However, I cannot make you any recommendation since I have not used the service of any of these outfitters. I thought that this information could be helpful to identify a few interesting places. Northern Quebec fly in caribou hunts would be right in line for your father. I went this last Sept and had a great hunt. The outfitter didn’t really hold up his end of the bargain, but I must look beyond that to the hunt only. We used James Bay Adventure. From what I saw when I was in Quebec and later speaking to them at a Denver Sports show, contact Explo Sylva, Dennis. They do have a web-site. Tom T.

I represent over 100 outfitters throughout North and Central America including 2 great outfitters in Quebec and Labrador. I would recommend my outfitter in Labrador for 2 reasons. It is a fairly easy hunt and the price is great. For $2195, you get full time guides, food, lodging, tags, taxes and a great time. The price is in US funds and the hunts is not a fly in hunt. You hunt by truck and boat and the lodging is in hard cabins instead of tents like most of the Northern Quebec outfitters are. I also rep a Northern Quebec outfitter but the price and ease of the Labrador outfitter is perfect for your father. My company inspects every outfitter that we represent and our services are at no additional cost to your trip. If you would like info on this hunt, Email with questions and I will forward info. Hunts take place in August to November. A bear can be taken at no extra charge except for the license. If I don’t talk to you, I hope your trip is enjoyable and memorable.
