It may have been a bit of a stretch to call him a hypocrite for working for the evil bastards in the Canadian government who destroy guns. I don’ think it was "totally out of line". Let’s say, 20% out of line. Let’s face it, you’re either in the asset column, or you are not. — Randy Howard Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Imagine this! I work as a civilian for the Quebec Provincial Police. I went out to my truck to get some gum and on the way out, I spotted this guy walking towards the building with firearms in his arms. As we met, I asked him if the guns were for registration or destruction?. He said they were for destruction. I said, "Why didn’t you sell them?" He said that they were registered and now he wanted to get rid of them. He didn’t strike me as being very bright. Lots of people think their firearms are registered because they signed their names in the dealers inventory book when they bought the firearm. I looked at the firearms and guess what? He was going to destroy a 12 guage Berreta semi-automatic, a over and under 20 gauge.22 and a double barrel 28 gauge. All in good shape. The double barrel 28 gauge had exposed hammers and looked to be an antique. I had about 150 bucks in my pocket. I am sure I could have gotten all 3 of the firearms for 20 bucks. When I went inside, I asked the registraire if the firearms had been registered and he said "no". It was too late though. We can’t do anything but destroy the firearms that are brought to us. But, if the guy was not so much of a dummy, he could have easily got 50 bucks from me. I have my new acquisition and possession certificate that is valid for another 4 years. I could have sold the ou for over 100 bucks to my supervisor. He is looking for one. The Savage OU costs over 600 dollars here in Canada. Plus, the registration etc etc. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Imagine this! A guy who claims to support gun rights works for the entity charged with enforcing gun registration. I may be old fashioned, but it seems to me to smack of hypocrisy. I bet you’re not too dumb to find another job. Probably just too damned lazy. Dave Remy and Chesty (GSPs) and Mauser (GSD) http://www.geocities.com/shrthair/ Earth First! I guess most cops in your mind "smack of hypocrisy" and/or are "lazy." Why are you going after this Canadian guy? I found his post very reasonable and instructive and your reaction very unreasonable.

I would say that an apology is in order here. This attack is totally out of line. Every job has it’s distasteful sides. Just because you work there doesn’t mean you support everything that happens. Besides, a police dept. doesn’t make laws. If you want to to take cheap shots, aim at parliaments and congresses. Dick F. Take the $50 Cdn that you would have given the guy and donate it to a human rights organization dedicated to preserving the right to keep and bear arms. Then take the first hour you would have spent on the range and spend it reading the information at http://www2.hawaii.edu/~rummel/MURDER.HTM and educate yourself as to the consequences of the Canadian government’s actions. You’re "sound shooting" here, shorthair. Ya know what? I’d bet there are parts of your State’s game laws you aren’t too fond of yet you continue to hunt. Smacks of hypocrisy to me using your logic. I agree with another poster. An apology is in order to our hunting companion to the north. Steve Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Not to sound of base, but I agree. It is like the drug dealer saying that kids are going to buy drugs so it might as well be him that they are getting them from . Please. I could not do something foe a living that I thought was wrong. I have principles, something some should have more of. There is more to life than a little bit of money!

I must explain my position. First, I mentioned that I am a "civilian" working for the Provincial Government. The gun laws are a Federal concern. They happen to have their offices in the same building I work in. In the beginning, I was one of those who received the calls from the public. When I was asked a question, I answered honestly to all the questions but also corrected some of the info about the new gun laws that were floating around. The federal bureau told all the gun owners that if they did not register their firearms before Oct 99, they could not go hunting. This was a lie. They told everyone that if the gun owners registered early, they would save a lot of money…..another lie. Anyway, when the gun registration bureau heard that some of us who know the law were answering questions, they ordered us (meaning me) to stop. I am one of the few who owns firearms, goes hunting, gives hunter safety training, adjusts rifles at the riflerange etc. Now, they have their own phone number. I still get a few calls now and then and my message is not to go against the law but to register at the last moment. Some of the other provinces in Canada are against the new laws and I am keeping my fingers crossed. What I mean by dummies, are those people who do not do any research, do not have an opinion, listen to what others say and automatically agree with them (especially t.v. and movie personalities) and those who think the government is infallible.
