Canadian Bill C-68
Question:
Do any Canadians out there have any comments on the gun bill C-68? If so I would like to hear from you. I may be moving up to Sask. I would really like to know if I should leave my firearms in the States. – JW

There is a growing resistance to Bill C-68 among Canadian shooting and hunting groups. A federal election will occur probably within six months and many gun owners will be making Bill C-68 an issue. The Reform party opposes gun control on the basis that it hurts honest gun owners, not criminals. The Progressive Conservative party promises to cancel C-68. Four provinces are fighting the federal government in a Constitutional challenge to C-68 and most provinces have indicated they cannot afford to get involved in total gun registration as outlined by C-68. Most Canadian gun owners feel threatened by previous and proposed gun control laws and many have given up. However, many more are beginning to fight. My advice is bring your guns, join some clubs and join the battle

Well, I’ve mentioned it in another post somewhere or other… any other canucks feel free to correct me if I am mistaken. All you need right now is an FAC ie firearms aquisition certificate. Are you going to change your citizenship? Thats the # 1 requirement. If not, I would really suggest that you contact the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) They take the place of provincial police where there are none, namely out west, they are also the national police. I’m sure that if you call your local consulate or trade commission or whatever they’ll give you a number to call. Hey, they probably have a web page up… give it a try. When it comes to guns in Canada, the cops take it VERY seriously. Apparently the bill you mentioned prohibits certain semi-auto rifles, magazine capacities, and a phasing in time for complete registration of all firearms in a period of 5 yrs starting in 1998. Also, starting sometime in the near future… they will replace the FAC with a gun license, sort of like a drivers license i guess… Anyhow, good luck, hope you enjoy the chilly prairie winter… not to mention the only province that has the most boring city in Canada (Regina)… which is by the way the main boot camp for the RCMP. No wonder it has no life

Ok, if I bring a couple of my firearm, what is the procedure at customs? It would break my fiancee’s heart if I had to spend my honeymoon in the slammer. If I contacted the Sask. Dept. of Tourism, will they have the info I need to cross the border will firearms? – JW – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Do any Canadians out there have any comments on the gun bill C-68? > If so I would like to hear from you. I would contact Canada Customs in Ottawa (or you could try any major Canadian airport) well before you show up, as they should be able to send you the paperwork. Bringing your guns with you to the border and then trying to fill out forms will be a major event in their lives, and take up most of your remaining years as well. Last year, I did the reverse and moved to Minnesota from Manitoba, bringing my 2 rifles (.22 and .243) with me. I received the paperwork necessary from the American customs office in the Winnipeg airport, filled the 1/2 page of required info, and sent them off to the ATF office. About 4 to 6 weeks later I got them back, approved and stamped. At the border, I walked in carrying my locked gun case and forms. The border guard took one look at me and my case, and told me to put it back in my car. He then examined my ATF forms, signed and stamped them, and sent me on my way about 10 minutes later. I could have brought in a bazooka and they never would have known! Plan to expect the exact opposite when coming into Canada, but it can be done. Just don’t bring and handguns in without being a licensed collector and spending a year in back and forth documents. Good luck!
